Last Saturday we hosted a workshop on how to set up and maintain your guitar at Service studio here in our home base of Portland, OR.
Admittedly, we were slightly nervous about the outcome. Our first thoughts were “does anyone actually want to spend $40 and four hours on a summery Saturday afternoon learning about their guitars?” Aside from the topic being a daunting one for many people, the process itself can also be time consuming and tedious. In the end, we can honestly say it was one of the best times we’ve had asking questions and learning alongside others who were as genuinely interested in getting to know their instrument. Most importantly, it all happened in a space that’s both nurturing and conducive to learning for everyone. We even made a little zine with step by step guides for each section of the setup process. The whole experience was basically unbeatable.
Topics we covered:
- Parts of the guitar
- Basic guitar electronics
- Hands on guitar/bass setup and why it matters
– Changing strings
– Truss rod adjustment
– String Action
– Pickup Height
Thanks so much to Ernie Ball for supplying us with amazing strings, Guitar Center for providing all of the necessary tools, and Megan Heffernan for being an amazing teacher! Reserve space now for our workshop next month on troubleshooting and getting to know the ins and outs of your amp. Same place, same time!
The working together (note how happy everyone is <3 )
Love y’all! Thanks for coming out and being super badasses. See you next time!
